Holiday Crazy

| by Kristina Zuzzio, Esthetician, Montclair, NJ, under Inspiration

Some of us might remember the Jesse Spano freak-out episode of Saved By the Bell where she is hysterical and cries out the words, "No time! There's never any time! I'll never have time to study! I'll never get in Stanford!," and so she goes on and on until she emotionally breaks down and sobs in Zack Morris's arms. I can't help, like most of you, feeling this way during the holiday season. Between buying presents, wrapping them, meeting up with people to give them to and still trying to live our every day lives our time is spread pretty thin, which means our wellness has definitely taken a backseat. But, I'm here for you like Zack was for Jesse and I am going to share a few helpful tips to keep you grounded and sane during the next couple of months.

Tip number one, if you're smart, you'll be resourceful this season and make Woodhouse your one stop shop. Not only will you be able to find the perfect gifts for your loved ones, but you'll be able to treat yourself in the process. What's that saying again, two birds one stone? Let's be honest, what better gift is there than relaxation, quiet, peace of mind and most importantly time for yourself!

But, if you choose not to take me up on my first offer, "BIG mistake, HUGE!" as our girl Julia Roberts said best in Pretty Woman, there are other ways to put your mind at ease. For starters schedule at least 10 to 30 minutes of your day for yourself. Take this time to do whatever it is that makes you happy. It could be taking a bath, doing yoga, reading a book, watching your favorite show, writing, dancing, cooking, going for a walk, having a cup of tea basically anything as long as it's a moment that just belongs to you. You are probably laughing right now, haha haha, where does this woman think I'm going to find the time to do this. Well, my answer to all of you is that you do have the time! We all do, we have nothing but time and it's what we make of it. Okay, philosophical rant over, but seriously we all do have 10 minutes in our day that we can take to dedicate to ourselves, no one is that busy

My next tip is to be mindful of the small moments of calm in your life. Mine is my walk from my car to my job at the Woodhouse every morning. I stroll down the quiet residential street, usually carrying 5 million bags (really just 3), look up at trees, listen to the birds, feel the breeze, smell the air and remind myself to be grateful. To appreciate the little things. This small step in my day grounds me, keeps me positive and reminds me of the simplicity of life. We create our own chaos. We have the power to perceive every moment the way we choose to. I'm challenging you to remain positive and not sweat the small stuff this holiday season, like sitting in traffic. Instead of getting angry and cursing the world, maybe say this is an extra half hour I have to myself now. Turn up the radio, sing and dance in your car or just let your mind wonder, relieve your stress.

I'm pretty sure I could keep going, but after all this is blog and I've already probably rambled too long. This holiday season keep it simple, be mindful, don't stress over things you can't control and find time for yourself. And if you want to make life easy, remember our Woodhouse team will always be there to put your mind and body at ease.

Happy Holidays from your Woodhouse team!!
